Why watch

Oruganti went from pricing Bing ads at Microsoft to building scooter software and a developer platform, and now runs WarpBuild, which sells faster, cheaper GitHub Actions runners as coding agents push more code through CI.

Surya Oruganti is the founder of WarpBuild, a San Francisco company from Y Combinator's Summer 2021 batch that sells fast runners for GitHub Actions, along with Docker builders and runners that teams can host in their own cloud.

Pricing Ads at Microsoft

He started his career at Microsoft on Bing Ads, where he worked on ad pricing and on predicting how likely a user was to click an ad, he said on Heavybit's Jamstack Radio in 2023. He described the work as large-scale optimization and machine learning.

Building an Electric Scooter

He then joined a startup building a low-cost electric scooter for the Indian market, leading software, connectivity, and hardware work such as touch screens. He told the podcast it was his first run at a startup and that he valued the ownership it gave him. He went on to work at smaller enterprise AI startups in retail and HR tech.

Launching WarpBuild

By mid-2023 he was building Argonaut, an internal developer platform that helps teams automate infrastructure and application deployments on their cloud. His Y Combinator profile now describes his work as fast, secure GitHub Actions runners and AI-powered software delivery insights. WarpBuild sells those runners by the minute on Linux, Windows, and Apple Silicon Macs, with a cheaper option that runs inside a customer's own AWS, GCP, or Azure account.

Personal Life

On his Y Combinator profile he lists hikes, poker, board games, and adrenaline among his interests. On Jamstack Radio he said he was making more time for euro-style strategy board games and for cooperative games such as Pandemic.
