Morales is building Orb for teams that change pricing as often as their AI products change, so billing stops being a multi-month engineering project.
Alvaro Morales is co-founder and chief executive of Orb, a usage-based billing company. He founded Orb with Kshitij Grover, who serves as chief technology officer.
Seeing Billing Break at Asana
Morales and Grover have said they grew frustrated dealing with billing as engineers at Asana, which pushed them to build billing infrastructure for other software companies, according to TechCrunch coverage in 2024. The gap they targeted was usage and hybrid pricing that seat-based tools handle poorly.
Building Orb with Kshitij Grover
Grover leads technology while Morales runs the company. Orb's platform ingests raw billing events, defines metrics with SQL, and supports credits, hybrid plans, and migrations when prices change, as described on Morales's Orb author page and in customer stories.
Selling Orb to AI and SaaS Teams
AI and infrastructure companies use Orb when token or usage pricing has to evolve without rewriting billing from scratch. Morales positions Orb as billing infrastructure rather than a simple Stripe wrapper, with finance integrations and invoicing in the same system.
