Sharp walked away from a working vertical CRM business for investors to build Attio, a general CRM that teams can reshape around their own sales process.
Nicolas Sharp is co-founder and CEO of Attio, a company in London, England, that builds an AI-native CRM that teams can customize around the way they sell.
Working at Passion Capital
Sharp was an associate at Passion Capital, a London venture firm, where he spent much of his time on the firm's deal-flow process, TechCrunch reported. That job meant finding a CRM and wiring it into the firm's other systems, according to Aakash Gupta's Attio deep dive.
Starting Fundstack
In April 2017 he started Fundstack, a vertical CRM for venture capital and private equity investors, with Alexander Christie. Early customers signed high-value contracts, but each wanted something different. Sharp told GV that the work felt "like training to be the world's very best in a sport we didn't love."
Turning Fundstack into Attio
Over coffee in a café in central London, Sharp and Christie sketched a CRM any company could mold to how it works. Christie went back to his desk and worked through Salesforce's onboarding and API to judge how much could be improved. They ran both companies for a time, then shut Fundstack and moved its customers over one by one. After three years of building, Attio launched in 2023. In a 2026 GV interview, Sharp argued that building far from Silicon Valley works in Attio's favor.
