AI-native CRM Product leadership
Peiris walked away from a presentation app with 25 million users, cut his team from 70 to 7, and rebuilt it as an AI-native CRM that a16z then backed with $47 million.
Keith Peiris is co-founder and CEO of Lightfield, an AI-native CRM that fills in its own records from emails, calls, and meetings and adds agents for outreach and deal reviews. Lightfield is the second act of Tome, the AI presentation app he started with Henri Liriani in 2020.
Seven Years at Facebook
Peiris spent seven years at Facebook, he told the Scatter Brain newsletter in 2022, first on natural language processing and the 2013 launch of Graph Search, then on Instagram's camera and augmented reality work, which included the 2016 launch of Stories.
“We learned to be surgical and precise when mapping effects to human needs,” he said of that period.
Tome and Storytelling at Work
During the pandemic he and Liriani, a Messenger alum, decided that tools for presenting big ideas at work had not kept up with the camera tools in people's personal lives. “What if we applied rigorous thinking and technology to the stuff inside our head instead of just the stuff our camera sees?” he asked. Tome went into beta in March 2022 and opened to everyone that September, and Upstarts reports it reached 25 million users.
Starting Over as Lightfield
Peiris then pivoted the company into customer relationship software, cutting the team from 70 people to 7, Upstarts reported in September 2026, when Lightfield announced a $47 million Series A led by a16z. The company says about 5,000 companies use it, with net dollar retention of 400%.
