Wall led the Google File System team, co-founded Google Wallet, and sold a fintech startup to Stripe before starting Runloop to give AI coding agents their own work environments.
Jonathan Wall is founder and CEO of Runloop, a San Francisco company that runs AI coding agents in isolated cloud devboxes and tests them against benchmarks.
Leading Google File System
At Google he led the Google File System team and received the Google Founders Award, according to Runloop's about page.
Co-Founding Google Wallet
In 2011 he co-founded Google Wallet, which helped bring tap-to-pay into daily use in the US. After leaving Google he co-founded the fintech startup Index, serving as CTO, and Index was acquired by Stripe, Runloop says.
Giving Coding Agents a Laptop
He founded Runloop in 2023 with a group of developers from Stripe. He told VentureBeat that a new employee's first day is spent setting up a laptop, credentials, and GitHub access, and that agents need the same. "If you expect these AI agents to be able to do the kinds of things people are doing, they're going to need all the same tools," he said. "They're going to need their own work environment."
