Document AI Engineering leadership
Dahal leads the technology behind a platform that now stacks case management and workflows on top of document extraction, from a company with offices in the United States, India, and Nepal.
Bikram Dahal is co-founder and CTO of Docsumo, a New York document AI company that reads bank statements, invoices, and insurance forms and checks them against each other and a customer’s rules. Docsumo’s about page says he leads the technology behind the platform.
Engineering in Kathmandu and Consulting in Data Science
Dahal is an engineer from the Institute of Engineering in Kathmandu, according to Docsumo’s about page, and worked in e-commerce and data science consulting before Docsumo.
He and Rushabh Sheth were building document data-capture APIs as a consulting project in 2018. Sheth told Equip that the two of them came up with the idea for Docsumo while solving document data capture for a Canadian bank.
Building the Platform
Sheth told Equip that Docsumo started with invoice processing. Its about page now describes one platform with three parts: Document AI reads the documents, and Case Management and Document Workflows, added in 2025 and 2026, check them and route the work. The about page lists the team as hybrid across the United States, India, and Nepal, and says both co-founders still lead the company day to day.
