Kamal Shah

Kamal Shah is co-founder and CEO of Prophet Security, which builds an AI SOC analyst that triages and investigates security alerts. He founded it with Vibhav Sreekanti, the chief technology officer; the two worked together at StackRox, the container security company Shah led as chief executive until Red Hat acquired it.

Listening to 160 security leaders

Before launch, Shah and Sreekanti spent seven months talking with more than 160 CISOs and security leaders, he wrote in the post announcing Prophet Security. They heard about alert overload and about morale: the average tenure of a security analyst, he wrote, had dropped from 24 months to 15.

The conversations also convinced him that the last wave of automation had stalled. Only 3 of the 160 leaders said they were satisfied with their SOAR tools, which need playbooks and integrations built and kept up by hand. “As one CISO put it succinctly, ‘SOAR has not lived up to its promise. Period.’” Prophet's answer is an AI analyst that investigates each alert without a playbook and shows the evidence behind its conclusion.
