Harjot Gill is co-founder and CEO of CodeRabbit, the AI code-review product that comments on pull requests with summaries and actionable fixes. A former Nutanix executive, he co-founded the company with Gur Singh to attack the review bottleneck that only gets worse as Copilot-style tools flood repositories with new code.

From Nutanix into the review bottleneck

Gill spent years in enterprise infrastructure before turning to developer tools. In a Letter Two interview he framed the market bluntly: "Today, every company is a software company and every software developer writes code that must be reviewed." Manual review, he said, is "time-consuming, prone to human error, and can create bottlenecks," and those problems multiply as teams scale.

Building CodeRabbit beside Copilot

CodeRabbit sits in the PR workflow: summarize the change, flag bugs and security issues, offer one-click accepts, and chat about feedback that does not match team standards. Gill positions it as complement, not rival, to generation tools: "While tools like Copilot assist developers in writing code faster, CodeRabbit ensures that the generated code is thoroughly vetted for bugs, security vulnerabilities, and adherence to best practices before it's merged."

Self-hosting for Fortune 500 hesitation

Early traction skewed SMB; enterprise proof-of-concepts stalled when buyers refused to send code to a SaaS black box. CodeRabbit answered with self-hosted deployments inside customer infrastructure. Gill told Letter Two that review pain "is just going to get worse with large amounts of code getting written with the AI completion tools," and that "AI will augment the large part of the manual review process."

On AI across the developer lifecycle

His longer view: "We see AI playing a role in every step of the developer workflow in future, from code generation to code reviews and testing and validation." The through-line is review as the scarce resource when generation becomes cheap — and infrastructure-grade options for companies that will not cloud-ship their repos.
