Ernest Semerda is co-founder and chief executive of Veryfi, a San Francisco document AI company that turns invoices, receipts, checks, and related financial documents into structured data through APIs and mobile SDKs.
Co-founding Medlert
In 2012 he co-founded Medlert, later VectorCare, a logistics and communication platform connecting hospitals to ambulances in the United States, according to his Y Combinator founder profile. That health-tech work put him close to messy real-world documents and urgent workflows.
Joining Y Combinator in 2017
In 2017 he co-founded Veryfi with Dmitry Birulia in Y Combinator’s Winter 2017 batch, aiming to build what they called a data extraction expert for receipts, invoices, and checks. Birulia had led engineering teams at Coupons, Inc. through its path from startup to IPO, per YC.
Personal Life
Semerda works from San Francisco, California, with Veryfi. Public founder notes emphasize building extraction tools that do not require customers to staff machine learning teams.
