Seed AI infrastructure New York, New York
He bets on outsider founders taking first-principles swings at AI compute, and led seed rounds for Etched and TeRAM.
Brian Schechter is a former teacher and two-time founder who led the seed round for the AI chip company Etched in 2023. He now leads infrastructure investing as a partner at Primary Venture Partners.
AI demand meets chip limits
He argues that AI demand is "colliding with today's semiconductor capabilities," and that outsider founders taking first-principles approaches will build the compute infrastructure that follows. In 2024 he led the seed round for Atero, founded by former NVIDIA and OpenAI engineers to manage GPU cluster memory; Crusoe later acquired Atero.
Leading TeRAM's seed round
In September 2026 Primary led the $37 million seed round for TeRAM, a Los Altos, California, company developing 3D SRAM memory for AI systems. "Memory is the constraint on AI progress, and incremental improvements will not be enough," Schechter said in the announcement.
