Arsham Ghahramani

Arsham Ghahramani is co-founder and CEO of Ribbon, a company in Toronto, Canada, that makes an AI recruiter that interviews job applicants by voice and video. He started it with Dave Vu, now chief operating officer.

From cancer genes to hiring

Ghahramani grew up in the United Kingdom. He earned a PhD at the Francis Crick Institute in London, using early generative AI models to study how genes are regulated in cancer. He then worked in high-frequency trading and in machine learning at Amazon before becoming head of machine learning at Ezra, a health tech company, where he met Vu, who led people and talent there.

Interviews at midnight

Ribbon grew out of how hard early-career job hunting has become. “Finding a job is a grueling process for junior candidates. I remember, not too long ago, being a junior candidate applying to many jobs. It’s only become harder since then,” he told Unite.AI. Because candidates can take an interview whenever they like, many do it late. “In fact, 25% of Ribbon interviews happen between 11 pm and 2 am local time,” he said.
