7.7/10
Overall Score
Recommend

Outset gives research teams the depth of one-to-one interviews at the speed of a survey, with an AI moderator that asks follow-up questions in more than 40 languages.

Best for

Enterprise UX, brand, and insights teams at companies such as Microsoft, HubSpot, and Away that need qualitative interviews at scale.

Not ideal for

Small teams that want a cheap self-serve survey tool, or studies where a trained human moderator must build rapport in person.

Verdict

Outset is an AI research company founded in 2023 by Aaron Cannon and Michael Hess. Research teams at Microsoft, HubSpot, Away, and Glassdoor write an interview guide, and its AI moderator interviews dozens or hundreds of participants at once by video, voice, or text, asks follow-up questions, and turns the sessions into themes, highlight reels, and reports. It matters because qualitative interviews have been too slow and small to inform many product decisions, and Outset lets teams hear from far more people within days.
