Why watch

Raji turned Meta-style experimentation habits into a product teams outside big tech could buy, then took that stack into OpenAI.

Vijaye Raji is the founder of Statsig, an experimentation and feature-management company based in Bellevue, Washington. He built Statsig after leading large consumer engineering teams at Meta and earlier spending nearly a decade at Microsoft.

Climbing from Microsoft into Meta Leadership

At Microsoft he worked on Windows Application Framework, SQL Server modeling tools, and the Visual Studio editor, according to his Statsig blog bio. At Facebook, later Meta, he built Messenger for Windows, Marketplace, and Groups Commerce, and rose to vice president roles spanning gaming, the Seattle engineering outpost, and entertainment.

Founding Statsig in 2021

He founded Statsig in 2021 so teams outside big tech could run the kind of feature flags and A/B tests Meta used internally, as GeekWire reported. Sequoia led early funding with Madrona participating, and Raji stayed hands-on as founder, chief executive, and lead frontend developer while the product spread across gaming, B2B SaaS, and AI feature launches.

Joining OpenAI After the Statsig Acquisition

In September 2025 OpenAI acquired Statsig in a deal GeekWire reported at about $1.1 billion, and Raji became OpenAI's chief technology officer of Applications. Statsig continues to operate for existing customers from its Seattle-area base, a transition buyers still watch when they bet on long-term vendor independence.

Personal Life

Raji is based in the Seattle area with Statsig's Bellevue roots. His public bio notes time with family and community volunteering when he is not shipping product.
