Why watch He built Radical as an AI-only firm in Toronto and was an early backer of Fei-Fei Li's World Labs.

Jordan Jacobs is co-founder and managing partner of Radical Ventures, the Toronto, Canada AI-focused venture firm. Before Radical he co-founded Layer 6 AI and served as co-CEO until TD Bank Group acquired it; he then joined TD as chief AI officer for business and strategy. With Layer 6 co-founder Tomi Poutanen and Professor Geoffrey Hinton he helped conceive the Vector Institute for Artificial Intelligence in Toronto. He is a director of CIFAR, which administers Canada's national AI strategy that he helped author, and he started his career as a technology and entertainment lawyer after a J.D. from Osgoode Hall Law School, where he was admitted at 19.

Radical's research-led bet

Radical has long argued that research-led AI companies would produce outsized outcomes. That thesis showed up clearly when the firm led World Labs' initial $230 million financing. Fei-Fei Li, World Labs' co-founder and CEO, is both a limited partner in Radical and one of its scientific partners. World Labs builds spatial-intelligence models that generate and simulate interactive 3D environments.

World Labs and the AMD deal

On September 28, 2026, AMD agreed to acquire World Labs for about $8.2 billion in stock, with Li set to become AMD's executive vice president and chief scientist after close. Coverage of the deal noted AMD is paying roughly 52% more than the post-money valuation reported for World Labs' February round—a round AMD itself had joined. For Jacobs and Radical, the sale is an early public test of the firm's research-first AI portfolio.
