Jason Barnard
Founder and CEO
Kalicube
Jason Barnard is founder and CEO of Kalicube, a consultancy and SaaS business built around Brand SERPs, Knowledge Panels, and the corroboration that helps search and AI systems describe a person or company accurately. He came to that specialty the hard way: Google once introduced him to prospective clients as a cartoon blue dog.
Boowa, Kwala, and a kids' site in the top 10,000
Trained in economics and statistics in Liverpool, Barnard spent the 1990s as a punk-folk musician before creating Boowa (a blue dog) and Kwala (a yellow koala) with his wife. Their children's site, built in Flash from Mauritius, competed with Disney and PBS-scale properties and by 2007 claimed more than a billion page views and a place among the world's most-visited sites. A TV series followed. When he left that company for digital marketing work, the web's memory of him did not leave with him.
When Google's business card said "blue dog"
Pitching SEO retainers, he watched deals die after prospects searched his name. On Kalicube's about page he recalls clients saying they would not hand a serious strategy budget to a cartoon blue dog. On the Search With Candour podcast he framed the lesson as identity infrastructure: "the real business card was when they looked me up on Google after I left the room." He spent 2012-2013 re-educating Google until the results presented him as a credible digital marketer, then productized that craft.
Founding Kalicube and Kalicube Pro
In 2015 he founded Kalicube and built Kalicube Pro to crawl and analyze brand SERPs and corroborating sources at scale - years of daily data points across millions of brands. The Kalicube Process packages entity clarity, Knowledge Panel work, and consistent corroboration so Google and, later, generative engines get a coherent story. He is blunt that Knowledge Panels are what Google treats as fact, not a best-guess featured snippet, and that controlling them means educating the machine with consistent, corroborated statements rather than filing a ticket and hoping.
Brand SERPs as the universal niche
He calls Brand SERP work a "universal niche": specialized inside SEO, universal for every brand and person who will be Googled after a meeting. In the Candour conversation he argued machines need a simple triplet - who you are, what you do, who your audience is - before they can offer you as a solution. That same clarity now sits under GEO and AI descriptions: if search and chat systems misunderstand the entity, they will not recommend it cleanly.
