Why watch

Wickett spent years building the DevSecOps community in Austin, from Signal Sciences to the Lonestar Application Security Conference, and now runs DryRun Security, which reviews every pull request with AI agents.

James Wickett is co-founder and CEO of DryRun Security, an Austin, Texas, company whose AI agents review code changes for security risk and check them against policies teams write in plain English.

Starting Out at the University of Oklahoma

He got his start in technology by founding a web startup while studying at the University of Oklahoma, according to ONUG. He went on to work in settings that ranged from large web-scale enterprises to small, fast-growing startups.

Working Where DevOps Meets Security

Much of his career has sat where software delivery meets security. He was head of research at Signal Sciences, a web application security company, and founded Gauntlt, an open-source framework for running security tests the way developers run other tests, according to DevOpsDays. He also founded the Lonestar Application Security Conference in Austin, helped organize DevOpsDays Austin and Serverless Days Austin, and wrote DevOps and DevSecOps courses for LinkedIn Learning.

Co-founding DryRun Security in 2023

He co-founded DryRun Security in 2023 with Ken Johnson, another longtime application security practitioner, according to PR Newswire. The company was a finalist in the Black Hat 2024 Startup Spotlight competition. Its tools look at what a code change is meant to do, which lets security teams find risky changes without writing detailed rules.
