Noel spent a decade proving that product teams, not only engineers, should be able to build in-app onboarding, then moved to Appcues' board after handing the CEO role to a successor in 2025.
Jackson Noel is a co-founder of Appcues, the product adoption platform that lets non-technical teams build in-app onboarding, checklists and announcements. He served as CEO for more than a decade before moving to the board in 2025, and he is based in Rhode Island.
Leaving GE Capital for Appcues
He spent three years as an investment analyst at GE Capital, then worked on growth at Testive, a personalized learning company, according to his Product School profile. He earned an MBA from Harvard Business School after undergraduate studies at Bucknell University, and he co-founded Appcues to make product adoption easier for teams that shipped software but could not keep users progressing inside it.
Building Appcues on Content Marketing
As CEO he pushed a content-led strategy that taught product-led teams how to onboard users, rather than only buying ads. On the How to Win podcast with Peep Laja he talked about staying a specialist in experience building while broader competitors went wide, and about learning pricing and competitor awareness the hard way as the market filled with adjacent tools.
Handing the CEO Seat to Ryan Barry
In March 2025 Ryan Barry became CEO of Appcues. Barry wrote that Noel had built a business "with soul" and would stay on as a board partner, according to Appcues' announcement post. Noel's own site now describes him as an entrepreneur and investor in Rhode Island who still sits on the Appcues board and advises companies on growth and go-to-market work.
Lessons from a Decade at Appcues
Across that decade Appcues became one of the clearer names in product adoption software. Noel's public theme stayed consistent: the teams closest to the user experience should be able to change it without waiting on an engineering queue, and specialist focus beats a vague all-in-one suite when buyers already know the job they need done. He outlines current work on his personal site.
