Spencer-Harper watched Dropbox engineers test the same workflows by hand every week and built Meticulous to replay real user sessions as front-end tests, so developers get wide coverage without writing or fixing tests.
Gabriel Spencer-Harper is co-founder and CEO of Meticulous, a London, United Kingdom, company that records how real users move through a web app and replays those sessions as front-end tests on every code change. He is a former software engineer at Dropbox and Opendoor.
Starting Moju After Warwick
He studied computer science and Chinese at the University of Warwick in Coventry, England, according to the student newspaper The Boar. The day after his final exam he wrote the first code for Moju, a search engine that helped brands find Instagram influencers, which he co-founded with his brother Milo. Moju reached the final interview round at Y Combinator but was not funded. "Find a co-founder: they will make the work less lonely and the journey more fun," he advised students in 2017.
Testing Code at Dropbox
He later worked as a software engineer at Dropbox and Opendoor. At Dropbox, he wrote in Meticulous's seed announcement, engineers sat in a meeting room for hours to test the same workflows by hand week after week, and the automated tests that replaced them needed mocks that were painful to write and maintain.
Founding Meticulous
Meticulous went through Y Combinator's Summer 2021 batch, with early backing from Coatue, Soma Capital and Base Case Capital. By October 2026 engineers at Notion, ElevenLabs, Dropbox, Wiz and LaunchDarkly used it to check their changes before merging, according to the company's announcement on PR Newswire. Its co-founder and CTO, Quentin Spencer-Harper, spent more than a decade at Palantir.
