Building Data Systems at Airbnb
He is a software engineer who has built software, machine learning and data infrastructure for more than 15 years, with stints at Airbnb, Facebook, Instagram and Cisco, according to his personal site.
Launching Phidata on Hacker News
After more than a decade as a data engineer, he wanted one person to be able to run a whole data platform, mostly to automate his own job. He quit what he called the best job in the world and in January 2023 introduced Phidata on Hacker News: a codebase with tools like Airflow, Superset and Jupyter preconfigured, where infrastructure and apps are defined as Python objects. He said he had automated most of his boilerplate code with a GPT-3 data assistant.
Renaming Phidata as Agno
In January 2025 he renamed the project Agno, after a Greek word for pure, in a launch post that promised agents in plain Python with no graphs or chains. The project now has more than 42,000 stars on GitHub.
