Andrey Vasnetsov
Co-founder and CTO
Qdrant
Andrey Vasnetsov is co-founder and CTO of Qdrant, the open-source vector database written in Rust. After finding tools like FAISS short of the features and scalability he wanted for matching unstructured objects, he published an engine on GitHub that drew enough developer demand to become a company with André Zayarni.
From a GitHub engine to a vector database company
Qdrant's about page credits a 2021 collaboration between Vasnetsov and Zayarni on similarity search for unstructured data. Vasnetsov wrote the production-oriented engine from scratch; early GitHub traction and questions from startups convinced them to commercialize managed cloud alongside the open-source core.
CTO of a Rust-first vector search stack
As CTO he remains the technical face of a product that markets itself on performance, filterable payloads, and explicit control over how vectors are indexed and retrieved. The company positions that stack as infrastructure under retrieval-augmented generation and other embedding-heavy applications.
