Hagerup is pushing autonomous finance agents into the most manual corner of the back office: accounts payable.
Alexander Hagerup is co-founder and chief executive of Vic.ai, an accounts payable automation company in New York, New York. Before Vic.ai he founded technology companies, including one backed by Northzone that was acquired by J2 Global, and he has a background in finance and accounting.
Starting Vic.ai in New York
With Kristoffer Roil he founded Vic.ai in 2017 after reading about superintelligence and deciding that accounting work was a place AI could remove drudgery, according to Vic.ai. The company trained models on large volumes of accounting documents and expanded from invoice capture into approvals, bill pay, and expense tools.
Early Customer Reviews at Vic.ai
Early customers still needed heavy human review when documents were messy or coding rules conflicted. Hagerup kept the product focused on raising no-touch rates rather than selling another OCR widget, and Vic.ai now markets autonomous AP workflows as the core offer.
Personal Life
Hagerup works in New York, New York, with Vic.ai. He has described himself as drawn to the social and ethical questions around AI, and he has served on boards in Nordic cloud accounting.
