Home / Founders / Spence Green
Green left Google Translate research to build an enterprise translation company where AI and human linguists share the same workflow.
Spence Green is co-founder and chief executive of Lilt, an enterprise AI translation company based in Emeryville, California. He co-founded the company in 2015 with John DeNero after both worked on Google Translate.
Meeting at Google Translate
Green and DeNero met while working on Google Translate around 2011, according to public accounts of the company’s founding summarized on Wikipedia. They wanted translation systems that kept humans in the loop instead of treating machine output as final.
Starting Lilt in Emeryville
They founded Lilt in 2015 to sell computer-assisted translation software that uses AI across dozens of languages. The product grew into an enterprise platform for orchestration, verification, and connectors into content systems.
Personal Life
Green works from the San Francisco Bay Area with Lilt. Public materials emphasize multilingual AI products more than personal hobbies.
