Jorge Monteiro is co-founder and chief executive of Ethiack, a Coimbra, Portugal, cybersecurity company whose agents continuously discover and test domains, APIs, and web apps for exploitable flaws.
Studying at the University of Beira Interior
Monteiro earned a master's in aeronautical engineering at the University of Beira Interior, specializing in astrodynamics, mission analysis, and small satellites, according to the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda. He also studied space systems at the Federal University of Minas Gerais in Brazil and is an alumnus of the International Space University and Porto Business School.
Founding Ethiack in 2022
He founded Spaceway and worked as a researcher at C-MAST, the Center for Mechanical and Aerospace Science and Technologies, as KuppingerCole notes. In 2022 he co-founded Ethiack with ethical hacker André Baptista and Vítor Pinho; the company says on its about page that it was born because manual security testing could not scale with growing attack surfaces.
Scaling Beyond Portugal
Moving from a small Portuguese team into a crowded global security market has been the main test. In December 2024 Ethiack raised a €4 million seed round led by Explorer Investments, which Monteiro said would help with the challenges of growth and internationalisation, according to EU-Startups, starting with the UK and Europe.
Personal Life
Monteiro is based in Portugal and also serves as a board cybersecurity advisor for CIONET. He describes his work as finding socioeconomic value in scientific and technological innovation.
