Why watch

Rizzoli's V7 labels the medical scans that hospital AI learns from, for customers such as Siemens Healthineers and GE Healthcare, and LinkedIn ranked it the UK's second fastest-growing startup in 2023.

“A lot of great entrepreneurs fear mediocrity, hence why they find the will within them to keep going until they succeed,” Alberto Rizzoli told his alma mater in 2024. He is co-founder and CEO of V7, a London, United Kingdom company whose Darwin platform labels images, video, and medical scans for AI training.

Four Generations of Entrepreneurs

Rizzoli was born and raised in Rome and comes from four generations of entrepreneurs. His great-grandfather started a book publishing company that grew into one of Europe's largest media groups, while his father lost almost everything at 30. Rizzoli says he was ready to start something of his own from the age of 15.

Bayes Business School

He studied management at what is now Bayes Business School in London, graduating in 2014, and started several ventures as a student with help from its entrepreneurship society. At home he taught himself to build software, physical products, and electronics. “When the money dries up, there’s no one that’s going to build a product for you,” he said.

A Gap in Pharma and Retail

While working on an earlier project, Rizzoli noticed a gap in the use of AI in pharma and retail, which led him to found V7 in 2018 with Simon Edwardsson. Rizzoli says its labeling automation has sped up the creation of training data tenfold. LinkedIn ranked it the second fastest-growing startup in the UK in 2023.
